Privacy Policy
Your entries are personal, and we treat them that way:
This summary is here to be readable. It is not a substitute for the full policy below, which is what governs.
1.Who we are
Solo Journey is a self-care journaling app operated by Khan Tech LLC (“Khan Tech,” “we,” “us,” “our”), a limited liability company registered in Utah, United States. For the purposes of applicable data protection laws, Khan Tech LLC is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.
2.What this policy covers
This policy applies to the Solo Journey mobile, web, and other device applications, our website, and related services (together, the “Service”). It does not cover third-party services you may reach from the Service. If you follow a link elsewhere, that company’s policy governs what they do with your information.
3.Information we collect
Information you give us:
Journal entries and reflections. The core of the Service. This includes any text you write anywhere in the app; photos you upload; the responses and messages you receive back; and edits you make. What you choose to write may include sensitive information, such as details about your emotions, relationships, or health. Journal content is private by default. It is not published, not visible to other users, and not shared outside the processing described in Sections 5 and 6 unless you choose to share it.
Account information. Your email address and the credentials you use to sign in. Solo Journey does not offer sign-in through Apple, Google, Facebook, or any other third-party identity provider, and we therefore do not collect and do not receive any profile, contact list, or social-graph information from those companies.
Payment information. We use third-party payment processors to handle payments and manage subscriptions. They collect and store your card details directly; we do not receive or store full payment card numbers. We receive transaction and subscription information needed to manage your access.
Support communications. If you email us for support, we keep a record of that correspondence.
Information collected automatically:
Technical information. When you use the Service, our systems record limited technical information, such as connection and device data and error diagnostics, used only to operate and secure the Service, prevent abuse, and diagnose problems. We do not use it to build an advertising or marketing profile of you, and we do not sell it.
4.How we use your information
We use your information to:
5.How AI processes your entries
This is the most important section for many people, so we explain it in plain terms: what our AI features do, exactly what happens to your writing when they apply, and how each step relates to your privacy.
5.1 What our AI features do
Solo Journey uses large language models, a type of artificial intelligence, to:
These features are not medical, mental-health, legal, or professional advice, and they are not a substitute for a qualified professional. Please see our Terms of Service for the full details on the nature and limits of AI features.
5.2 What happens to your entry, step by step
You write and save. Your entry is stored privately, encrypted in transit and at rest. If your plan or trial includes AI features, saving an entry with text automatically sends that text over an encrypted connection for safety screening and response generation. If your access does not include AI, saving an entry does not send it for AI processing.
You use another AI feature. A writing feature may send the text you choose to revise. A periodic insight may send relevant text from multiple entries so it can respond to patterns over time.
The model processes your text. The large language model reads the text and generates a response, which is returned to us.
We show it to you and save it. We save the response and display it alongside your entry, so you can revisit it later.
At no point in this process is your entry shown to other users unless you decide to share it.
5.3 How our AI provider handles your entries
We process your entries using large language models operated by a third-party AI provider under commercial data-protection terms. The provider may use contracted subprocessors to deliver and secure the service. Under those terms:
5.4 We do not use your entries to train AI models
This is the concern we hear most often, so we want to be direct about it. Generating a reflection or an insight is a process called inference: the model reads your text and produces a response. That request does not train the model or permanently change how it behaves. As described in Section 5.3, the provider may temporarily retain limited data for security and abuse prevention.
We use AI only for inference. We do not submit your journal entries to train, fine-tune, or improve any AI model. If this ever changes, we will tell you before it takes effect, as described in Section 12.
5.5 AI features are not automated decisions about you
Our AI generates reflections and insights for you to read. It does not make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you. For example, it does not determine your eligibility for anything, your pricing, or your access to any service. You are always the one who decides what to do with what you read.
5.6 AI output can be wrong
AI-generated content is produced automatically, without human review, and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or may misread what you wrote. It reflects language, not professional judgment, and it is not medical advice or anything of the sort. Do not rely on AI output for any decision; see our Terms of Service for the full disclaimer.
5.7 Human access to your entries
No one at Khan Tech reads your journal as a matter of course. There is no review queue, no moderation team reading entries, and no internal browsing of user content. A small number of authorized personnel can technically reach production systems where entries are stored, which is necessary to operate, secure, and repair the Service; that access is limited by the controls described in Section 8 and is used for those purposes only.
5.8 Safety screening
To help the Service respond appropriately, entries may be checked by an automated safety process before other AI features run. This process is automated and imperfect, no one is monitoring your entries in real time, and it is not a crisis, emergency, or monitoring service. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988 in the U.S.), call 911, or contact your local emergency services. Please also see our Terms of Service.
5.9 When AI features apply
AI availability depends on your plan or trial. When your access includes AI, saving an entry with text automatically starts the processing described above. If your access does not include AI, Solo Journey works as a private journal and your entries are not sent for AI processing.
6.How we share information
We share information only in these circumstances:
Service providers. Companies that help us run the Service, under contract and only for that purpose: application hosting and database storage, AI processing, payment and subscription management across app stores and the web, product and account email, and error monitoring. They may process your information only on our instructions.
Legal requirements. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that it is necessary to comply with a law, regulation, subpoena, court order, or other legal process; to enforce our Terms; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or others. Where there is an imminent risk of death or serious physical injury, we may disclose the minimum information necessary to address it without delay.
Business transfer. If Khan Tech is acquired, merges, or sells assets, user information may transfer as part of that transaction. This policy continues to apply until the acquiring party provides notice of a different one. Except in connection with such a transaction, or as described above, we do not sell your personal information.
With your consent. At your direction or with your consent, we may share and disclose your information.
7.How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as we need it to provide the Service and meet our legal obligations. Specifically:
The things you write. Until you delete them, or until you delete your account. Deleting an entry also removes anything generated from it and any photos attached to it.
Account data. Retained for the life of your account. When you delete your account, your account record and your journal content are deleted immediately and permanently. Deletion is irreversible: we do not operate a recovery period or a grace period, and we cannot restore a deleted account or its contents at your request. Please copy anything you wish to keep before deleting.
Payment and transaction records. As long as required for tax, accounting, and legal purposes. These records are held by us and by our payment processors and do not include your journal content.
8.Security
We protect your information using:
Because our AI features need to read the text of an entry to generate a reflection or insight, entries you send for AI processing are readable by our systems and by the AI model during that processing, and are protected by the measures above. No system is perfectly secure. We work hard to protect your information but cannot guarantee absolute security, and you use the Service at your own risk.
9.Your rights and choices
Everyone. You can access, edit, and delete your entries in the app. You can delete your account, which deletes your entries.
US state privacy rights. Depending on your state, you may have the right to:
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contact@solojourney.app. We will not discriminate against you for exercising them. We may need to verify your identity before we act on a request.
10.Where your information is processed
Your information is stored and processed in the United States. If you use the Service from outside the US, you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the US, where data-protection laws may differ from those in your country.
11.Children
Solo Journey is for people aged 13 and older. It is not directed to children under 13, and no one under 13 may create an account or use the Service. If you are under 18, you must have your parent or legal guardian’s permission to use the Service.
We do not knowingly permit anyone under 13 to use the Service. If we learn that a user is under 13, we reserve the right to terminate the account and delete associated data.
12.Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. If changes are material, we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. The “Last updated” date at the top always reflects the current version.

If you have questions about this policy or your information, email us at contact@solojourney.app and a real person will get back to you.
